Floods in Chennai, Thousands in Need

By Cassandra @ Setmore

Writer, editor and scheduling product expert at Setmore Appointments.

Chennai, India is home to population of 4.6 million people. Since November, the city has been pummeled by non-stop rainfall, including a staggering 16 inches in just two days at the beginning of December 2015. Streets are flooded in neck-deep waters, entire homes are submerged, and in several areas people are struggling to get food and clean drinking water.

As a global company, we have staff in the US, Romania, and India, including the hardest-hit areas of Chennai. Several of our friends and family there have lost everything—their homes, their vehicles, their irreplaceable photos and heirlooms. Nevertheless these team members have continued to come into work every single day, and our average response time has barely increased from two minutes to three minutes. It would be an understatement to say we are proud of these team members.

You can learn more about the flooding in Chennai by visiting chennairestored.org, a website we built to help boost awareness and outreach. We’ve also included links to several relief organizations where you can easily donate money that goes directly to food, blankets, shelter, and more. Read, learn, and donate what you feel comfortable donating.

We have since deactivated the Chennai Restored website. Thank you for your contribution and support!

To our folks in Chennai, our amazing users, and everyone else—stay warm and stay safe this season. Our thoughts are with you.

  • Thank you for bringing this to our attention and above all to all the staff in India who are doing a superb job. I find the support of setmore better than any other company I deal with. I will go on the site to donate today.

  • SetMore is fantastic and I am saddened to learn about the tragedy facing the people behind it. It is easy to loose sight of the human element of an app, but this is a terrible reminder. It is also a reminder of compassion and how business is a force for good- the human element is behind it all. At the end of the day, it is all about the people and their invaluable lives. A deep prayer for you and all loved ones to be safe through this tragedy.

    • Hi Keith,
Your words of appreciation about Setmore will surely boost the morale of the team. Further, thank you for keeping all of us in your prayer. Your prayers would strengthen both the city and the people to bounce back to normalcy.

  • We are saddened to learn about this tragedy. Prayers and support to those who are feeling such loss. Respectfully, #hisservantheatingandcooling.

    • Hey Cheryl,
Thank you for you prayers and support. It’s great to see that you have all of us in your prayers. Your thoughts will surely empower all those affected by the flood and help them overcome the unfortunate event.

  • I am so thankful for the Setmore app. It’s not only easy to use, but it’s been a total game changer for my small barbershop. The general consensus from my clientele has been extremely positive. People love it! It’s easy to use and it’s been very stable through out the last few months I’ve had it.
It saddens me to know so many people are losing so much in India right now. I won’t take for granted what I’ve got here and will absolutely donate and do what I can to help those affected from the floods.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
